We Here at Shasta Valley, want to make the adoption process as enjoyable and exciting as we
can. In fact I love to share in your Joy and enthusiasm it's another huge reason why we do
this! I cannot begin to convey the happiness and sheer fulfillment it brings me when one of
my puppies, go home to be loved and cherished by a new owner(s) overwhelmed with Joy.
Some have even cried with happiness when pick up day finally comes. However, having said
that, my number 1 concern is the Happiness, welfare, and ease of transition of my puppies for
these reasons the process is as follows;
When you have selected your puppy, and we have approved you as a suitable home, you will
be required to complete and sign the Shasta Valley sales contract/Health guarantee. Once we
receive your $250 deposit The puppy will be marked sold under his/her Picture. I will only use
your first name and your city next to the word "sold" in red, under your puppy's picture on
our puppies page. The deposit can be paid by mail with a money order. We no longer accept
Paypal Several breeders have been scammed out of their puppies and Money via charge
backs with paypal. Or (within Canada only) email money transfer which is very secure and
instant and your bank will give you a record of the transaction instantly. Or you may come in
person and pay cash but keep in mind if the puppy is too young, you will not be able to touch
the pup.
If you are on our paid reservation list, you will be contacted by us when your are next in line
for a puppy matching your preferences is available for adoption. You will be contacted 2 days
before the pup is posted Available for adoption
You will then receive weekly updates as well as a new pictures of your Puppy every Monday
so you can watch his or her evolution. If you have purchased your puppy from me and you
are close enough to visit you are welcome to do so once the pup has reached a minimum of
at least 4 to 6 weeks of age. I only allow visits this young if you have already confirmed your
purchase with a deposit. I do not allow visits under 8 weeks of age to people who are still
puppy shopping. If I permit you to visit there is a procedure I have in place that you must
strictly follow for the safety and welfare of all my dogs. This involves waring and isolation
gown and special slippers over your shoes you must use hand sanitizer and where gloves.
All of this I provide. I ask that you not visit any pet stores on route or any kennels you
potentially bring dog dangerous strains of bacteria to my dogs and puppies. All this may
seem a bit extreme to some. But won't you take comfort knowing we take all precautions to
keep your puppy safe?
I request all my buyers to bring a pet carrier (Kennel Cab) along with a soft little bed or blanket
that goes in the bottom of the create for your puppy. I will begin crate training at approx 6
weeks old. The puppy grows quite accustomed to it and come to regard it as their safe place,
there little home, and their bed. They eventually go into their crate on their own when they
desire to rest and get away from the rest of the pack. The real beauty of it is, by the time your
puppy goes home the transition is so much easier on them and you, because they get to
bring their little house with all the familiar sent and feel with them. They will have instinctively
learned not to go to the potty in their little house and make it much easier for you to re-enforce
the pee pad training they have already received. Your new puppy will be at least 70% if not
100% pee pad trained but it will need to be re-enforced in a new environment. It also gets
them accustomed to being separated from their litter mates for brief periods at first, Then
eventually for the entire night by the time they go home.
Please make sure the crate is washed and sanitized even if it is new because it has likely been
in a pet store where other people who own pets frequent some even bring their pets to the
store with them you can bring potentially "harmful to dogs" strains of bacteria to my puppies
and adults. Using a spray bottle, put a teaspoon of chlorine bleach in a litre of water. Spray
down the crate and allow the crate it to remain wet for about 2 minutes, then wipe it down and
rinse it. Launder the bedding for the crate too. If your puppy is being shipped or you are
unable to bring the crate to me before 8 weeks of age. I will purchase the crate and bedding
for you but the cost will be added to the balance owed on your puppy.
The two most difficult issues people have with their new puppy are; a Crying whining
unsettled puppy, that can be very demanding. The 2nd issue is house breaking or pee pad
training. This can be difficult for puppy and you and can interfere with the bonding process.
With crate training all ready done, the puppy has learned some independence, and a feeling of
security so they should not be whiny are too demanding. Pee pad training already done or
almost complete, it virtually eliminates these issues. Therefore all you and you new puppy
have to do is fall in love! Of course there will be other things to train your puppy such as lead
training and boundaries. But these are not immediately necessary.
At approximately 6 weeks of age a stool sample will be collected from 1 puppy out of the litter
to be screened for parasites or intestinal issues etc. Let me say my puppies always have a
negative result and clear their fecal exam. That is because the parents are frequently tested
and are all on preventative treatment. If the adults are well cared for the puppies should never
have any parasites. As far as we are concerned there is no excuse for that!
At approximately 8 to 10 weeks of age or when the puppy has reached at least 1lb the puppies
will have their full physical examination Be given their first shot and be micro chipped as per
CKC requirements. At that point our Veterinarian issues each them an official health certificate
stating the puppy was examen and deemed healthy an fit for purchase. You will also receive
record of vaccine certificate.
Your Sales contract will also include a 1 year health guarantee.
